Blessure Graphique - Sebastien Marciak

1st Floor, 48 King Street
4th - 12th July 2008

To open the body is to question its sanctity. From the earliest pursuits in the study of anatomy, there was opened a wound in the body as an ideal.

In the same way, questioning the traditional process of engraving opens a wound in the Beau métier.

Working with the body is a way to question the engraving process and to establish a contemporary printmaking practice between the incisions made in the body and those made in the plate.

French artist Sebastien Marciak has been working at GPS for the past six months to produce this series of large scale works that feature a combination of digital, woodblock and engraving techniques.
