John Byrne was born in Paisley in 1940. He studied at Glasgow School of Art from 1958 to 1963, where he was awarded the Bellahouston Award for painting in his final year. Recognised for his television screenplays and film as much as for his painting and printmaking, Byrne is renowned for his diverse talent and unique style.
Byrne has been using the Glasgow Print Studio facilities since it's beginnings in the 1970's with his first publication of prints in 1992. Since then he has went on to produce over 70 prints at the studio. This continued relationship has culminated in a major exhibition of paintings in 2002 and most recently in 2010 another major solo show, 'Corner Boys and Angels'.
