Visnes, Hanneline

Hanneline Visnes' work records the tension between abstraction and representation, pattern and spontaneity - a play of opposites that has come to characterise a slightly cynical approach to postmodern painting.

Visnes' rich and intricate works employ repetitive and decorative imagery, appropriated from a range of historical and cultural sources such as Persian tiles and medieval manuscripts.

Born in Bergen, Norway, she trained in Oslo and at Glasgow School of Art where she completed her MFA in 2002.
