David Mach is a sculptor and installation artist who works with multiple mass-produced objects. Mach has used most notably magazines, newspapers and car tyres, consistently throughout his career. He brings diverse items together in large-scale installations with humour and social comment.
David Mach studied at the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee and subsequently at the Royal College of Art, London. He was elected RA in 1998 and in 2000 joined the Royal Academy of Arts as Professor of Sculpture. His international reputation was quickly established with solo and group exhibitions held in the UK and internationally. Much of his work is commission-based, including 'Collage Portrait of Glasgow' which was unveiled in March 2002 as part of a major solo exhibition of his work at the Gallery of Modern Art, Glasgow.
